About Us:


Good Business Lab is a not-for-profit worker well-being research organization. We design and evaluate programs that can find common ground between worker well-being in blue-collar settings and business interests, and then through our newest initiative GBL ventures develop and scale products based on our research. We've worked with corporates such as Shahi Exports, Radnik Exports, H&M, Gap Inc., and GANNI, and are backed by funders such as Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and academics at the world's top universities such as Harvard Business School.


Our founding team brings together two US-based academics who are professors at the University of Michigan and UC San Diego and have PhDs in economics from Yale University and the head of Organizational Development at Shahi Exports, India’s largest apparel manufacturer. Our work is spread across labour-intensive industries (e.g., garment, electronics, and automobile manufacturing, retail, and food service) in the global south and we maintain offices in India, the US, and Latin America.


We have over 100 global full-time staff across offices worldwide, 17 completed and 16+ ongoing projects across gender, skilling, workplace environment, and health issues, and over 200,000 workers directly impacted.


Length of Commitment: 4-5 months


Location: Faridabad and Noida


Remuneration: 40,000 p/m


Start Date: Immediate


Role Summary:


The Field consultant will work closely with academic researchers, the research team, the data team, and other field team members to help implement the Travel Buddy projects and support the team on vertical-specific goals. They will also ensure that high data collection standards are followed and will be responsible for practicing robust and ethical data collection practices for smooth implementation along with the senior team members. 


Qualification & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Economics, Social Work, or any related field, who understands basic knowledge of social research and data collection processes.
  • Ability to work in a team, manage multiple projects on the ground, and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to work standard work hours and should be open for traveling (in and around Bangalore).
  • Basic experience in Microsoft Word and MS Excel. 
  • Basic knowledge of survey data collection tools and techniques like SurveyCTO, Google Forms, etc., is preferred but not required. 
  • Ability to read, write and converse in Kannada/Hindi/Odia/English. (It will vary from project to project.)

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Prepare invoices and contracts for the project.
  • Maintain and organize contracts and other supporting documents for field-related activities.
  • Develop field plan and identify milestones for task completion.
  • Recruit, hire and train all relevant resources for the field team.
  • Mentor all relevant field staff to execute their tasks efficiently.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders and RA to ensure smooth implementation of field activities.
  • Anticipate risks and adjust project plans accordingly; Keep RA and stakeholders updated on progress and decisions transparently.
  • Set clear goals for the field team and drive them to completion.
  • Manage the team leaders and enumerators on a day-to-day basis.
  • Monitor progress on data collection activities and ensure, in consultation with RA, that relevant data quality checks are implemented.
  • Supervise surveyors and ensure good-quality data collection.
  • Conduct accompaniments and spot checks.
  • Support the team in retraining underperforming enumerators.
  • Ensure that the field protocols are being followed by both supervisors and enumerators.
  • Lead and provide daily, weekly and monthly reports on progress to RA and team members
