The ten-year, multi-million-dollar Child Opportunity Fund (COF), which is one of the most ambitious programmes for the British Asian Trust, focuses on five high prevalence states and seeks to address the abuse, exploitation and violence against children.


Job Purpose


The Officer- Finance will play a critical role in British Asian Trust’s success through effective financial management of the programs that are implemented through British Asian Trust’s partner Organisations. They will review the expenses against specific activities that are planned for a particular quarter and will keep the Specialist - Finance & Operations informed about any concerns observed in the bookkeeping and accounting system of partner organisations.


Main responsibilities:  


  • Responsible for managing British Asian Trust partner organisations in two states and ensuring timely submission of financial reports from each partner organisation.
  • Working alongside the Senior Programme Officer-State, they will enhance the capacities of finance teams in partner organisations with a view to continuously improving their financial planning, record keeping, analysis and preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reports. for partner organisations under a Project Management Unit (PMU).
  • Undertake regular financial monitoring and review, visiting each partner organisation at least once every quarter.
  • Regular tracking and review of expenditure by partner organisations, including providing regular reports and highlighting issues with the Specialist – Finance & Operations and the Senior Programme Officer-State.
  • Compiling monthly and quarterly financial reports, detailing expenditure by partner organisations and the PMU, and sharing them with the Specialist – Finance & Operations will be part of their responsibilities.
  • Keep track of funds received by individual partner organisations and assist in the preparation and submission of fund requests to British Asian Trust.
  • Ensuring timely submission of financial reports by each partner organisation, working closely with their respective heads and Finance Officer.
  • Support the Senior Programme Officer-State or Manager- Programmes in ensuring proper implementation of annual key objectives and action plans. Quarterly reviews of these plans will be conducted in collaboration with the Senior Programme Officer-State and Officer-MEL.
  • Participate and support the annual review process of projects supported by the British Asian Trust alongside the Senior Programme Officer-State and Specialist - Finance and Operations.
  • Provide administration and logistic support to the PMU.
  • Collaborate with the Specialist – Finance & Operations to ensure all partner organisations comply with the requirements and guidelines of the FCRA Amendment Act, 2020.
  • Preparation of the British Asian Trust annual operating cost budget (travel, meetings & training, partner reviews, etc). Reviewing travel and other expenses submitted by British Asian Trust staff and forwarding them to the Specialist – Finance & Operations for further action.

Knowledge and Experience

  • A Bachelor's or Master’s degree in commerce, Accountancy, BBA, or MBA -E
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in managing finance within a development organization. - E
  • Experience working with Indian NGOs. -E
  • Knowledge of current finance-related laws and regulations. -E
  • Experience in managing the Budgets independently. -E
  • Experience in managing effective relationships with Partner Organizations. -E
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills. E
  • Ability to prepare and consolidate Financial Reports for both donors and senior management within the organization. -E
  • Patience and a commitment to advancing agendas at various levels. -E
  • Ability to oversee large budgets. -E
  • Experience of managing funds and its utilization.- E
  • Proven capability to train and engage with grassroots personnel effectively. -D
  • Practical experience in developing operational plans, financial projections, and cash-flow management is preferred-D
  • Experience in areas such as Child Rights and Protection, Livelihoods, and Micro-financing is desirable. -D
