Principal Software Engineer – API Platform Team

Mimecast is looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join the API Platform engineering team.

At Mimecast we operate a Cloud based, highly available, high-volume transaction, scalable Cyber Reliance platform. All this happens in a state of the art and complex technical environment that is run by some of the best technologists in their subject field. We are looking for someone who thinks that searching for a needle in a haystack can indeed be exciting and not afraid of exploring unconventional solutions.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead the design and development of Java-based APIs from conception to deployment.
• Architect scalable and resilient API solutions that adhere to best practices.
• Collaborate with product managers, software engineers, and other stakeholders to define API requirements and specifications.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.
• Conduct code reviews to ensure code quality, performance, and adherence to coding standards.
• Identify and address technical debt, performance bottlenecks, and scalability challenges in existing API implementations.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the reliability, scalability, and maintainability of our API ecosystem.
• Act as a technical subject matter expert, providing guidance and support to cross-functional teams on API-related issues and projects.

What You’ll Bring:

• Expert level in Java JDK 11 (or later) and runtime, with a focus on Java-based API development.
• Proven track record of designing and implementing high-performance, scalable, and reliable APIs.
• Proficiency in API design principles, RESTful API design, and microservices architecture.
• Strong knowledge of database systems (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL, DynamoDB).
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex issues in production environments.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience with API security protocols and standards (e.g., OAuth, JWT, SSL/TLS).
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and messaging systems (e.g., Kafka).
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing frameworks.
• Experience with infrastructure automation tooling such as Terraform or
  CloudFormation.
• Experience with Agile methodologies and practices.
