Department Overview


The Institutional business comprises of Fidelity’s Institutional Business Units in the UK, EMEA and Asia Pac and is a strategic area targeted for growth over the coming years. The Technology Department has been acting as the key enablers for the business in achieving their goals. The Institutional portfolio of projects will include a large collection of strategic initiatives as well as tactical ones to support day-to-day operations and strengthen the technical environment.


Primary technologies used in these applications are: Java/J2EE frameworks like Struts,Spring MVC, Hibernate, Heroku, Angular JS, Oracle, OBIEE, Informatica, Vermillion, Control M , salesforce, etc.


Job Description / Key Responsibilities


The department is currently working on multi year programme on Client Reporting to enhance the overall reporting for Institutional business & extend the same for other business channels like Wholesale & DC . As a part of this programme multiple projects will be executed in parallel with different release timelines.


A Business Analyst is a key role within the team and the successful candidate will facilitate requirement elicitation, data querying and analysis activities for the Institutional function in India.


Key Responsibilities


  • Function as a techno-functional resource and assist in designing solutions for institutional business
  • Capture & clarification of business requirements through a range of analysis techniques for the FIL Institutional Business (data flow diagrams, case tool analysis, gap analysis and work & process flow diagrams)
  • Obtaining agreement on business analysis deliverables and ensuring that they meet all the requirements of the institutional business and tracking these across multiple systems groups
  • Ability to guide/mentor juniors in the team.
  • Working with business leads to identify, define, and clarify the scope / issues in terms of complex business/systems requirements.
  • Identify options for potential solutions and assessing them for both technical and business suitability/feasibility
  • Hands on knowledge of web application /UI design.
  • Working with business analysts to capture & clarify business requirements & support business & technology teams in data analysis for the institutional client reporting
  • Acting as a proxy customer with the development teams, facilitating open communication between the customer & development team
  • Driving user acceptance criteria with the customer
  • Well aware of the AGILE terminologies and should have knowledge of AGILE tools like JIRA, Confluence etc.
  • Stay abreast of key emerging products / industry standards in the Business Analysis arena
  • Knowledge of SQL for data querying & analysis will be an added advantage.
  • Exposure to MS Office products like Visio and Excel

Experience and Qualifications


  • 4-6 years relevant business analysis experience preferably with a financial services firm
  • Good knowledge of database & reporting technologies/systems
  • Good knowledge of SQL and ability to understand data model, database structured etc to perform in-depth data analysis for client reports & dashboards
  • Well versed with concepts around mutual funds, stock markets, securities – equity, fixed income and derivatives
  • Knowledge of fund accounting, fund performance, attribution & risk measures is desirable
  • Exposure to structured software development life-cycle methodology (preferably Agile or Iterative development)
  • Experience of working with multi-cultural teams in a geographically diverse environment
  • Strong problem solving  skills with the ability to think laterally to arrive at a solution
  • Must have an eye for detail and analyse/relate to the business problem in hand
  • Excellent communication, presentation and negotiation skills
  • Ability to develop & maintain good relationships with all business and systems stakeholders
  • Strong customer awareness with ability to manage customer expectations
