Job Description

TITLE: LIBRARIAN


REPORTS TO: ADMINISTRATOR/PRINCIPAL AND DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS


Primary Purpose:


School Librarian tasks may include selecting, acquiring, cataloging, classifying, circulating, and maintaining library materials; and furnishing reference, bibliographical, and readers' advisory services. Also ordering books and censoring them before display.


Responsibilities:


  • Search standard reference materials, including on-line sources and the Internet, to answer patrons' reference questions.
  • Teach library patrons to search for information using databases.
  • Keep records of circulation and materials.
  • Supervise budgeting, planning, and personnel activities.
  • Check books in and out of the library.
  • Arranging library schedules for the classes to visit the library.
  • Explain the use of library facilities, resources, equipment, and services, and provide information about library policies and make sure all follow it.
  • Keep on encouraging students to check out books by depending on every way that helps (Buying for them bookmarks, giving them gifts in all school activities).
  • Display book every time we have an activity going on in the school, in addition to decorating the library with related posters and displays.
  • Review and evaluate resource material, such as book reviews, to select and order print, audiovisual, and electronic resources.
  • Direct and train library staff in duties such as receiving, shelving, researching, and equipment use.
  • Respond to students' and teachers’ complaints, taking action, as necessary.
  • Organize collections of books, publications, documents, audiovisual aids, and other reference materials for convenient access.
  • Develop library policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate materials to determine outdated or unused items to be discarded.
  • Compile lists of books, periodicals, articles, and audiovisual materials on particular subjects.
  • Compile lists of overdue materials and notify borrowers that their materials are overdue.
  • Doing Inventory once a year (at the end of each academic year).

Qualifications:


  • Native English speaker preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science is preferred.
  • A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a public library.
  • Excellent IT skills and knowledge of library databases.
  • Outstanding organizational and interpersonal communication skills.
