Job Description

Key Roles & Responsibilities


• Responsible overall for jobs execution/assignments by Supervisor, on time, team coordination, team leadership, other sections coordination for support, follow up, report and request support from line manager in order to accomplish the activities at the earliest;
• Responsible for assistant foreman and team members performance;
• Ensure that lifting operations are strictly planned and conducted as per Shipyard Lifting Procedure
• Safety procedures and practices are strictly implemented in all lifting and rigging activities
• Coordinate with other sections personnel in order to accomplish on time the activities and report to your superior for any bottle necks for support;
• Supervise and lead assistant foremen in the department and troubleshoot/solve problems and work towards improvement of team members and facility/tools/equipment;
• Provide firm technical support to team members;
• Follow up strictly the project plan tasks and activities, organize and coordinate as per the approved documentation (drawings, specifications and procedures). Report any deviation from schedule and inform in advance supervisor for any risks, deviations and issues expected;
• Responsible to ensure assistant foremen keep tracking of manhours consumed by each team member and correct bookings;
• Ensure all rigging tools/equipment are inspected, certified and colour coded prior to use;
• Ensure lifting procedures are strictly followed and request procedure if non available for particular job;
• Follow strictly the approved documented procedures and request amendments if deviations are applicable;
• Advise and recommend procedures improvement and equipment purchase in order to save hours and perform as per high safety and quality standards available in the shipyard;
• Plan and project manpower requirement. Ensure man-power requirements are communicated to / from the Supervisor and are available;
• Responsible for investigations and corrective actions;
• Responsible for assigned budgeted manhours control, targeting to improve and save hours;
• Report any deviation from schedule and inform in advance supervisor for any risks, deviations and issues expected;
• Responsible for ordering, monitoring, distributing and maintenance of rigging materials;
• Ensure all employees are have all the necessary tooling, equipment, specifications, drawings and procedures to properly accomplish their jobs;
• De-conflict work and inform the Supervisor of any potential problem that jeopardizes completion of tasks;
• Attend daily production tool box meetings and coordinate the assignments with other shops and ensure projected goals are met and all issues are being addressed;
• Work with trades / shops to develop training plans and ensure all personnel, including temporary labour, have been properly selected/ trained;
• Hold joint responsibility with Project Manager for trade performance to meet contract quality, schedule and budget performance;
• Perform all job functions in accordance with MILAHA’s Mission and Vision Core values;
• Prepare job completion reports and submit  to Supervisor;
• Maintain quality records file and assure job history is available for all attended job, if applicable;
• Responsible of daily housekeeping at work location;
• Supervise that the preventive maintenance check lists is followed strictly;
• Responsible to maintain in good conditions the tools and equipment working with;
• Prepare exigent assessments for team members and use company policy to improve personnel;
• Implement and follow management procedures and directions;
• Any other duties and responsibilities assigned by Management.


Education & Professional Qualification:
- High School Diploma or ITI certificate or equivalent
- Qualified Rigging and Scaffolding Supervisor training by QP approved TPTA


Professional Experience:
- Minimum 7 years’ experience as Foreman in marine field with well-known company in a role with supervisory responsibility;
- Heavy industry experience;
- Docking/undocking preparation experience;
- Heavy lifting and big quantity of scaffolding erection;
- Shipyard experience will be preferred.


Geographic Experience:
- N/A


Computer Skills:
- Basic knowledge of MS Office and web applications.


Language Skills:
- Working knowledge of English (verbal and written);
- Knowledge of Hindi will be an added advantage.


Market/Industry/Functional Knowledge:
- Knowledge of ship repair yard functions and activities;
- Ability to read the lifting plans, installation, start up and operation manual and follow systems/equipment start-ups procedures and troubleshooting;
- Strong knowledge in rigging/lifting and scaffolding operations;
- Good knowledge to estimate hours for rigging and scaffolding operations;
- Understand cranes capacities and charts;
- Ability to prepare lifting and scaffolding procedures;
- Good knowledge of estimating hours for rigging operations;
- Ability to build scaffolding of all types;
- Strong knowledge in scaffolding preparation, lifting operations and planning;
- Well understand PTW and scaffolding tags;
- Ability to lift heavy items.
