Position:  Art Collections Registrar Manager


Reports to: E&C Asset Development Manager


Sector: Entertainment and Culture


Job Location: NEOM


Role Purpose:


NEOM requires an Art Collections Registrar Manager for the Entertainment and Culture sector.


The main purpose of the role is to be responsible for overseeing the management and coordination of all aspects related to the care, storage, transportation, and documentation of art assets and collections in museums, galleries, public realm or other art-related designated areas within the regions of NEOM. This role requires a keen attention to detail, strong organisational skills, and a comprehensive understanding of art handling and conservation practices. 


Key Accountabilities:


  1. Collection Management System:
  • As a manager-grade role for a start-up collections operation, a fundamental requirement is to lead the specification, on-boarding and operation of a new, bespoke collection management system.  The system will require to be tailored to the specific nature of NEOM E&C collections requirements, which is accountable to this role.
  1. Collection Management:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and tracking of all art assets and collections, including acquisition, deaccession, loans, and locations.
  • Implement and update collection management databases and operating systems to track the artwork's movement and status.
  • Collaborate with curators and other stakeholders to ensure proper documentation and provenance information for each artwork.
  1. Art Handling and Conservation:
  • Oversee the safe and proper handling of artworks during installation, de-installation, and transportation to maintain artwork quality and minimise damage or deterioration.
  • Work closely with conservation professionals to schedule and coordinate artwork maintenance and restoration activities.
  • Oversee transportation and storage logistics with NEOM partner sectors, maintaining controlled environments to preserve the condition of the art collection.
  1. Loans and Exhibitions:
  • Facilitate the process of borrowing and lending artworks for exhibitions or loans within NEOM or to other institutions, ensuring all legal agreements and insurance requirements are met.
  • Coordinate the packaging, transportation, and condition reporting of artworks for outgoing and incoming loans and exhibitions.
  1. Inventory and Cataloging:
  • Conduct regular inventories of the art collection to ensure accuracy and completeness of records.
  • Catalog new acquisitions and update existing records with relevant information such as artist details, medium, dimensions, condition reports, and images.
  1. Documentation and Reporting:
  • Prepare and manage detailed and condition reports for artworks, both before and after transportation, and ensure they are stored appropriately in the database.
  • Generate reports on the collection's status, movements, and conservation efforts as required by management or external parties on an ongoing basis.
  1. Security and Insurance:
  • Implement security measures and protocols to safeguard the art collection from theft, damage, or unauthorized access.
  • Work with insurance providers to assess and maintain appropriate insurance coverage for the art collection.
  1. Budgeting and Procurement:
  • Assist in the preparation of the departmental budget for art services and administrative / registrar activities.
  • Source and procure art handling supplies, packing materials, and conservation materials as needed.
  1. Team Collaboration:
  • Collaborate with museum staff, curators, conservators, and exhibition designers to plan and execute art-related projects effectively.
  • Provide support and guidance to other departments on art handling best practices and exhibition requirements.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:


Relevant industry experience of a minimum of 5 years proven experience as an Art Services Administrator, Registrar, or similar role in an art-related organisation


Demonstrable experience of:


Modelling skills: Strong financial modelling skills and experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, incl. business acumen to feed into decision-making


Presentation skills: A strong communicator able to influence decisions with impactful presentation skills and storytelling; able to present sophisticated analysis, logical reasoning, and grounded alternatives to the team


Pragmatism: NEOM is fast-growing with a flat organizational structure, which means that team members can occasionally be asked to perform tasks beyond the immediate role requirements. Candidates must be willing to “roll up their sleeves” and be motivated, disciplined, flexible, adaptable, both autonomous and a team player, intellectually curious, and ultimately able to navigate a complex and changing organization to achieve results.

Qualifications:


  •  Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
