Intellectual Property Director
In this role, you will be responsible for managing Intellectual Property Department activities, in order to ensure and deliver on the Department’s mandate and identify improvement opportunities that will contribute to the delivery of short and mid-term strategic objectives within set KPIs, agreed budgets and adopted policies and procedures.
You will be responsible for
Contributing to the design and implementation of the Division’s strategy and roadmap by providing function-specific inputs
Establishing and implementing the Department’s operational plans in support of the Division’s overall strategic plan and KPIs
Preparing the Intellectual Property Department annual budget and participate in the Division’s budgeting cycle and process
Utilizing and managing Intellectual Property Department’s budget effectively, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered
Investigating and proposing implementing strategies that result in positive financial impact for STA and mitigate financial and operational risks
Leading research to stay abreast in patent law and other forms of intellectual property protection
Ensuring examination of existing patents and protections within STA and provide necessary recommendations
Overseeing the development of IP policies and guidelines and communicate with relevant stakeholders
Managing STA IP portfolio, including drafting documents as well as advising leadership on IP-related agreements, including non-disclosure agreements and license agreements
Overseeing efforts in working with other departments for the identification, patenting and licensing of intellectual property assets within STA
Ensuring provision of due diligence support for corporate development activities and manage patentability, freedom to operate, infringement, validity, and regulatory exclusivity analyses
Monitoring and ensuring proper investigation of infringements on patents and intellectual properties
Assessing and advising on IP risks and opportunities when conducting shifts in mandates from other entities
Working closely with IP Partners and STA stakeholders to identify, implement, and enforce IP policy and procedures; implement strategic solutions;
Proposing improvements to Intellectual Property Department’s policies, and ensure the implementation of procedures and controls across all areas of activity so that all relevant procedural/legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering high quality and cost-effective results
Monitoring day-to-day activities to ensure compliance with stipulated policies and procedures
Stimulating subordinates and contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems and processes taking into account leading practices, changes in business environment, cost reduction and productivity improvement
Managing, guiding and assisting direct reports to perform their functional operations in accordance with set policies and procedures
Participating in identifying and recruiting key talent for Intellectual Property Department
Promoting a high-performance working environment embracing STA’s values
Building and maintaining solid relations with externals stakeholders such as governmental entities and consultants to serve STA’s best interest
Providing assistance across the organization and support peers when needed to perform their duties
Approving reports and presentations related to Intellectual Property Department activities and achievements for reporting and decision-making
Performing other activities as and when required
You will need
Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent.
Master’s degree in Law or equivalent is preferred
At least 10 years of relevant experience
