Overview:


We are recruiting for a Regional GIS Lead for the GIS capability across Land Development in the Middle East. The role will be to plan for and implement all aspects of Geographic Information Systems (GIS)-related matters including facilitating project teams, identifying resources, establishing project objectives, timelines, and milestones, and continuing to develop and enforce standards for GIS deployment and use. This will be a broad and challenging role, developing client relationships as well as supporting the growth and professional development of the geospatial team in region and managing project team working in-region and from India and UK.


You will directly contribute to the implementation and tracking of the Digital Data strategy and take a leadership role in the continuing development and execution of a regional GIS strategy and spearhead the GIS digital development of the business at large. A key digital consultant within the Land Development leadership team you will act as a subject matter expert and will create innovative and unique solutions for clients. Ultimately responsible for the delivery of geospatial requirements across all projects in the Region, you will lead the Geospatial team and work alongside the Global Geospatial Community to ensure international best practice and contribute to the Global Practice Initiative.


Roles & Responsibilities:


A key part of this role will be to continue to develop and execute the Geospatial Strategy for Land Development as part of the wider Digital Data Strategy. This strategy includes steps to:


  • Build and develop Atkins spatial data capability and practice, providing professional and technical leadership.


  • Implement best practice and continued development and enforcement of standards for spatial data management, development and integration tools, techniques, and methods, including integration with BIM products and workflows.


  • Develop and implement processes, policies, procedures, and appropriate governance.


  • To ensure Atkins spatial data assets are maintained accurately, updated in a timely manner and are of a high quality.


  • Design and develop a standardised spatial database for Land Development.


  • Promote and communicate the value in metadata repositories and set up robust. Governance processes to keep repositories up to date.


  • Identify and deploy the most appropriate tools, technologies, and methods to meet.Atkins spatial data needs.


The post holder will be responsible for inputting required geospatial elements to client bids and proposal, including:


  • Identification of required geospatial input to a project.


  • Development of detailed work plans and schedules for all GIS input to a project.


  • Definition of scope of work, schedule, and procedures for project assignments.


  • Determination of budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule


Evaluation and recommendations for hardware and software requirements.


The post holder will be ultimately responsible for the delivery of GIS aspects of ongoing and future projects. This will include:


  • Management of a team of spatial data professionals.


  • Oversight of spatial data deliverables to client specifications.


  • Design/Overseeing the design of project specific GIS, database, and analytical.


  • Processes may include system development (e.g., tailoring hardware, software, and data configurations to meet project needs).


  • Evaluation and recommendations for hardware and software requirements to improve internal business processes and methodologies.

Design/Oversee the design and development of GIS automation processes for project and business use. Modification of application code to customize automation processes.


Performance of quality assurance on GIS deliverables, GIS processing, and execution of tasks by subordinates.


Production/Overseeing production of client deliverables in both hardcopy and digital format.


Management of a team of GIS Professionals assigned to multiple projects.


Education/Experience:


  • Bachelor's Degree in Geography, Planning, Engineering, Computer Science, or related curriculum (or equivalent).


  • Master’s degree in GIS, Computer Science, or related curriculum (or equivalent).


  • 10+ years of related experience, including experience as a manager within the AEC industry (Experience within the MENA region would be advantageous).


Skills:


  • Demonstrable leadership experience.


  • Ability to communicate the benefits of GIS and spatial data approaches to multiple stakeholders for business development and digital transformation.


  • A proficient knowledge of GIS packages, theory, mapping, programming, database, and principles of GIS, and the ability to apply these principles to new applications.


  • Ability to design and maintain GIS databases and other database formats such as Microsoft Access, dBase, etc.


  • Ability to utilize, convert and incorporate various types of data into GIS. Examples of this data include Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CAD), Global Positioning Systems (GPS), Building Information Models (BIM) and database files.


  • Experience with FME Form and Flow (Certified Professional is an advantage).


  • Proficiency in programming and scripting languages such as Python.


  • Ability to connect with clients, build credible client relationships and lead technology-based discussions.


  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build meaningful and collaborative relationships across various levels of a business.


  • Arabic language skills an advantage.
