Thanks for inviting me to answer the question. Unfortunately I won't be able to give a helpful answer as my major field of study was the English language's linguistics & translation with some background about literature, but I didn't study literature in details.

I do not seem to understand the question fully, but what I see is how to teach English Literature. Well, via reading, translation, lexics checking, composition, literary text analysis, discussion and

I think by explaining the deep rooted meanings and enabling the students to understand the content and context. They should also be taught to appreciate the piece of work according to their level of understanding.

It depends on the stage which you would like to teach.Generally speaking, classes should be divided into groups and then you assign parts to be read and understood .Parts should be prepared in advance by questions or a summary or whatever you find suitable for your students. This is general ,but there are many steps I haven't mentioned as the question isn't fully clear.

Literature in English is the course of study that expresses the cultures of other non native speakers of English via the three genres of literature. English literature on the other hand is entirely the the expression of the culture of native speakers of English through these three genres of literature. While the former uses symbols and themes that are particular and associated to their environment and culture; the later uses symbols and themes that are contrary to the former.

English language is the study of how language works, in a full range of texts. You would look at language in books, the media, TV and speeches. There is also a focus on linguistics and the technical side to English, with things like grammar and syntax. English lit is about the in depth study of works of literature, mainly novels, plays and poetry.

If it is not fun, forget about it... Choose the title with this in mind. If possible involve the kids in the decision process. Show the kids several ways to approach the text - videos already made about the title, critics, photographs and paintings, etc. Then get the students to choose how to tackle the given text in groups. Give them two weeks or so wth a rubric to direct them. Then comes the tasties part, the presentations (not necessarily oral ones). Once the kids have reached the intermediate level, literature should replace the course book anyway. In Turkey, at Robert College, they start the school year with literature with no use of course books. They establish the syllabus based on the language points they could exploit in these literature pieces.

Literature and Language are inseparable. Mixing  Literature in ELT is mesmerizing.

To teach soft skills we can excerpt some passages  from literature. For example, for time management ans other soft skills,  passage from Hamlet be taken to put across the results of  procrastination and the difference between important work and urgent work. For free speaking and creative thinking, poetical lines like "miles to go before I sleep" ,"beauty is truth, Truth beauty"

If you are talking about teaching literature using English as a medium of instruction then. Entengrating English and literature is the best way to go not that i am an authority in this but we know literature is the mirror of the society so most of the time you'll have to use what's in your immediate locality, depending with the level interprete them into English. But again when it comes to artifacts English has no place. To spice it up a literature class mother tongue has to play a vital role.
