What does the subordinate do if he considers that his dependence on his superiors is too strong and that he lacks security?

This is normal feeling when weak structure found, any person needs a secure environment wither in work or whole life, so when he finds his work environment insecure so he depends on his superiors  

Security comes within the person himself, if an employee lack confidence in his own decisions and can't take risks, he usually seek shelter by depending on his superiors. An employee should be adventurous when possible, and take risks. But he also need to be confident enough to say he made a mistake,

I agree with most of the answers given in response here. The reasons have been given for insecurity in this discussion.

 

Here is my response to what subordinate should or could do:

 

  • The subordinate should address to the reason of the insecurity. If it's regarding the skill/ functional then should seek help of the subject matter expert. (usually people are scared when seeking help, which they shouldn't be. It's a positive approach towards learning/ training & team building)
  • Usually such feel occurs if one is not sure of any task which he has been assigned OR a structural/ functional change is expected or going on.
  • If the insecurity is due to some major changes that are going on, then should speak to the change management team. (although as a standard process the change management team communicates with all the teams well before execution)

If the subordinate believes that his dependence is too strong with regard to his superiors and that he lacks security, he will fight with all his strength for his freedom. This battle of reaction for its independence is based on fear and fear.
