Respecting each other and give help in difficult situation should encourage colleage to work openly..

Too much friendly at work envoirement may reduce the productivity. so be helpful , respecting and give praise when required is key for openness.......

I would usually stick to being friendly, positive & helpful. These attributes have a contagious effect on the long term, even on moody people. Moody people are hard to adapt to & they can cause you having swinging moods yourself in your attempt to satisfy them. Try to adapt, but if you can’t don’t be too harsh on yourself.  

Also, I would try to build collegial relationships slowly without crossing lines too quickly (under the name of being casual) or being too distant & detached (under the name of being formal). Relationships that are built slowly usually last longer.
