Just do as following

Go out with him on an informal lunch or dinner
Discuss what he has been upto in the past couple of years
Ask him where would he see himself in next10 years
Ask about his websites, social media profiles and stalk them :)
Check his rankings through Alexa, google analytics
Honesty is very important you should check for it
Self discipline is a very big success factor
