The Infrastructure Business is seeking a highly motivated, detail oriented, self-starter to join our UAE office as a Principal Mechanical Engineer - Wet Utilities.


Position Overview:


As a principal Infrastructure Mechanical Engineer – Wet Utilities, you will play a pivotal role in the design, implementation, and maintenance of mechanical systems associated with infrastructure plants, gas & district cooling networks within the broader infrastructure projects. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the optimal performance, reliability, and efficiency of wet utilities systems.


Responsibilities:  


  • Lead the design process for mechanical components of wet utilities including pump stations, pump rooms, mechanical infrastructure plants including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection considering factors such as pump selection, piping systems, valves, control systems and instrumentation.


  • Performs complete pump system engineering calculations and hydraulic modelling analysis.


  • Comprehensive expertise in the design of HVAC systems, encompassing the selection of suitable air conditioning systems, heat load calculations, pipe sizing, chiller sizing, and all related equipment, is essential.


  • Develop and customize SCADA applications to meet specific project requirements, ensuring seamless integration with existing systems.


  • Exhibit a proficient comprehension of the design workflow employing BIM, specifically with a focus on Revit and Navisworks.


  • Proficient of surge analysis will provide a distinct advantage.


  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to integrate mechanical systems seamlessly within overall infrastructure projects.


  • Develop detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.


  • Oversee the mechanical aspects of multidisciplinary projects, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards.


  • Proficient understanding of gas and district cooling infrastructure applications and deliverables will provide a distinct advantage.


  • Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and other stakeholders to facilitate effective project execution.


  • Supervise a broader regional team of senior and junior engineers, as well as BIM coordinators.


  • Liaise with authorities and other stakeholders to obtain design approval at all stages of design development.


  • Implement improvements and upgrades to enhance efficiency, reliability, and sustainability.


  • Ensure all designs and installations comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.


  • Stay informed about advancements in mechanical engineering for wet utility systems and incorporate best practices.


  • Provide technical expertise and support during the construction, commissioning, and operation phases of infrastructure projects.


  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve mechanical issues.


Requirements:


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, master's degree will provide a distinct advantage.


  • A minimum of 15 years of experience is required in a similar role/project of which minimum 10 years in the GCC.


  • Professional Engineer (PE) license/Chartered Engineer is highly desirable.


  • Each engineer must be a water / wastewater practitioner with thorough experience in the core subject, having a level or expertise and experience commensurate with the position.


  • Preference for candidates already based in UAE/ with previous experience working in the Middle East.


  • Proven experience in the design and implementation of mechanical systems for wet utilities pump stations.


  • Strong knowledge of pump selection, fluid dynamics, and hydraulic systems.


  • Proficient in relevant design and analysis software.


Additionally, the applicant should be familiar with and have experience with a combination of the following skills:


  • Excellent interpersonal skills and strong technical writing and communications skills. Experience and familiarity with the following programs is a plus: AutoCAD, MicroStation, WaterGEMS, Wanda, Revit/BIM… etc.

  • Ability to process paper/electronic documents and utilize computer equipment; ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to visit project sites if necessary.


  • Job also requires ability to assemble and analyse data.
