About the job SAFETY OFFICER
PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
As a Safety Officer specializing in machinery, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe operation of machinery and equipment within an industrial or manufacturing setting. Your primary focus will be on implementing safety protocols, conducting risk assessments, providing training, and promoting a culture of safety to prevent accidents and injuries related to machinery use.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Safety Compliance: Monitor and enforce compliance with occupational health and safety regulations, standards, and policies related to machinery operation, including OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) guidelines and industry-specific regulations.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct risk assessments and hazard analyses of machinery and equipment to identify potential safety hazards, assess associated risks, and develop mitigation strategies to minimize the likelihood of accidents or injuries.
- Safety Procedures: Develop, implement, and review safety procedures, protocols, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the safe operation, maintenance, and servicing of machinery, ensuring that they are communicated effectively to relevant personnel.
- Training and Education: Provide training and educational programs to employees, contractors, and subcontractors on safe machinery operation practices, equipment-specific safety protocols, emergency procedures, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Safety Inspections: Conduct regular inspections and audits of machinery, equipment, and work areas to identify potential safety hazards, ensure compliance with safety standards, and address any issues or deficiencies promptly.
- Incident Investigation: Investigate machinery-related incidents, accidents, near misses, and other safety incidents to determine root causes, analyze contributing factors, and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Safety Culture Promotion: Promote a strong safety culture by fostering awareness, accountability, and participation among employees through safety meetings, toolbox talks, safety campaigns, and recognition programs.
- Emergency Preparedness: Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for machinery-related incidents, including evacuation plans, first aid protocols, and coordination with emergency services.
- Safety Equipment: Assess, select, and ensure the availability and proper use of safety equipment, guarding devices, and engineering controls to protect workers from machinery-related hazards.
- Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records, documentation, and reports related to machinery safety activities, including inspection reports, incident reports, training records, and safety performance metrics.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
- Candidates MUST be immediately available and currently based in the UAE
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field. Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, OHST, CHST) is a plus.
- Proven experience (typically 3+ years) in occupational health and safety, with a focus on machinery safety in industrial or manufacturing environments.
- In-depth knowledge of machinery safety principles, risk assessment methodologies, safety standards (e.g., ANSI, ISO), and regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to influence behavior and drive change toward a safer work environment.
- Proficiency in conducting safety inspections, incident investigations, and safety training sessions.
- Familiarity with safety management systems (e.g., OHSAS 18001, ISO 45001) and computer-based safety management tools/software.
