Senior Façade Engineer

Job Description

As a Senior Façade Engineer at GHD you will work on complex façade projects around the UAE and the GCC. You will have experience with all types of façade systems and construction methodologies including stick/unitized curtain wall systems and skylights, door and window systems, cladding systems (including stone, concrete and aluminum), balustrades, lightweight structures etc. 

We are seeking candidates who are keen to develop façade engineering to meet increasingly complex industry demands. This includes responsibility for all design, engineering, documentation, administration, and compliance for projects undertaken by the team. Collaborating with the growing façade team and the wider GHD teams, you will work across multidisciplinary, specialist projects that require façade expertise.

Key Responsibilities:

• Collaborate closely with GHD clients and provide specialist input during design and tender phases of projects to resolve technical problems and ensure quality of services.
• Coordinate with internal and external teams including Architecture, Structural Engineering, MEP Engineering, Acoustic Engineering, Fire and Life Safety, Façade Access, Project Management etc.
• Use AutoCAD, Rhino and Revit to communicate intent and prepare facade design documentation.
• Provide detailed engineering calculations and facade structural analysis, advice and reporting.
• Prepare design and engineering reports for design and construction stages.
• Liaise with manufacturers and system suppliers to better understand capabilities and limitations of their products.
• Provide practical advice to clients on build-ability and façade construction processes.
• Coordinate with Main Contractors and their specialist subcontractors.
• Review and advise on technical submittals from contractors.
• Undertake site visits during construction to ensure works are being erected in accordance with the approved design and specification; thereafter writing reports to summarize observations and findings. 
• Undertake façade surveys, report on findings and make proposals for remediation where vital.
• Provide façade advisory role for façade refurbishment works.
• Handle routine contract administration for office and project procedures.
• Manage and mentor junior team members.

Qualifications Skills & Expertise: 

• Minimum bachelor’s degree in engineering from a reputed University.
• Minimum 10 years’ experience in Façade Engineering, preferably with a mix of consultancy and contracting experience. Experience working in the UAE is essential.
• Experience working in the office and on site.
• Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit and Rhino.
• Proficient in façade & structural finite element software, e.g. Strand 7, STAAD
• Sound knowledge in façade systems and design and relevant codes and standards.
• Programming experience with Rhino script, Grasshopper, Python, VB, C# etc. would be an advantage.
• Strong track record of working cross-functionally within a complex matrix organization.
• Experience in forming strong and collaborative relationships with team members across different regions and focus areas.
• Ability to hand sketch and present ideas during meetings and presentations.
• Meticulous attention to detail with ability to schedule and manage multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent communication, problem solving and organizational skills.
• Exceptional written English and technical report writing
