Veterinary Assistant

The Veterinary Assistant is responsible for providing support to veterinarians in the care and treatment of animals. They assist in various procedures, handle and restrain animals, maintain cleanliness and organization in the clinic, and provide basic care to animals. The Veterinary Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and comfort of animals in the clinic.

Responsibilities:

1. Assist veterinarians in examinations, surgeries, and other medical procedures.
2. Handle and restrain animals during procedures to ensure their safety and the safety of the veterinary team.
3. Prepare examination rooms and surgical areas by cleaning and sterilizing equipment and instruments.
4. Administer medications and treatments as directed by veterinarians.
5. Provide basic care to animals, including feeding, grooming, and exercising.
6. Maintain cleanliness and organization in the clinic, including cleaning and disinfecting cages and kennels.
7. Assist with laboratory procedures, such as collecting and preparing samples for testing.
8. Assist with radiology procedures, including positioning animals and developing X-rays.
9. Record and maintain accurate medical records for each animal.
10. Provide support and assistance to pet owners, including answering questions and providing education on animal care.

Preferred Candidate:

1. Minimum of 1 year of experience working as a veterinary assistant or in a similar role.
2. Excellent knowledge of animal care and basic veterinary procedures.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with pet owners and the veterinary team.
4. Ability to handle and restrain animals safely and calmly.
5. Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
6. Ability to work in a fast-paced and stressful environment.
7. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
8. Strong organizational skills to maintain cleanliness and organization in the clinic.
9. Ability to lift and carry heavy objects, such as bags of pet food or animals.
10. Experience with handling and caring for a variety of animals, including dogs, cats, and small mammals.
