SENIOR CONSTRUCTION MANAGER

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

Senior Construction Manager Projects plans and supervises a wide range of construction projects from start to finish. He will organize and oversee construction procedures and ensure they are completed in a timely and efficient manner. Must be well-versed in all construction methodologies and procedures. The goal will be to ensure all projects are delivered on time according to requirements and without exceeding budget.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Collaborate with engineers, architects etc. to determine the specifications of the project
• Negotiate contracts with external vendors to reach profitable agreements
• Obtain permits and licenses from appropriate authorities
• Determine needed resources (manpower, equipment and materials) from start to finish with attention to budgetary limitations
• Plan all construction operations and schedule intermediate phases to ensure deadlines will be met
• Acquire equipment and material and monitor stocks to timely handle inadequacies
• Hire contractors and other staff and allocate responsibilities
• Supervise the work of laborers, mechanics etc. and give them guidance when needed
• Evaluate progress and prepare detailed reports
• Ensure adherence to all health and safety standards and report issues

KEY SKILLS:

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, architecture, or a related field is typically required. Some employers may prefer candidates with a master's degree or additional certifications.
• Candidates should have a minimum of 10+ years of relevant experience in construction project management, preferably with experience in design consultancy firms. Previous experience in a senior or leadership position on construction projects is highly desirable.
• Comprehensive understanding of construction processes, methods, materials, and equipment, as well as knowledge of building codes, regulations, and industry standards. Familiarity with architectural design principles and practices is also beneficial.
• Proficiency in project management principles, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, resource management, and risk management. Experience with project management software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project is often required.
