Sandvik Mining and Rock Solutions (SMR) is a business area of the Sandvik Group and a leading supplier of equipment and tools, services, support and technical solutions for the mining industry and specialist sectors such as quarrying, tunnelling, demolition, dimensional stone, recycling and the civil engineering industry. We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Sourcing Engineer with 9–10 years of expertise in sourcing and supplier management across Steel Fabrication, Machined Components, and Electrical Commodities & Mechanical Categories. The role requires strong technical and commercial acumen in Supplier Development, New Product Development (NPD), Zero-Based Costing (ZBC), Value Engineering (VE), Localization, and Strategic Sourcing.


Ideal Candidate Profile


A seasoned sourcing professional with 9–10 years of experience, capable of managing complex sourcing projects across Steel Fabrication, Machining, and Electrical commodities, while driving Supplier Development, New Product Introduction (NPI/NPD), Localization, Zero-Based Costing, and Strategic Cost Reduction initiatives in a global manufacturing environment.


Key Responsibilities


Strategic Sourcing & Category Management


  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for Steel Fabrication, Precision Machining, and Electrical & Mechanical Categories.
  • Manage end-to-end sourcing activities including supplier identification, RFQs, techno-commercial evaluations, negotiations, and contract finalization.
  • Drive supplier consolidation and rationalization initiatives to improve operational efficiency.
  • Monitor commodity market trends, raw material indices, and supply risks to support sourcing decisions.

Supplier Development & Management


  • Identify, qualify, and develop suppliers to meet organizational quality, cost, delivery, and capacity requirements.
  • Conduct supplier capability assessments, process audits, and supplier performance reviews.
  • Establish supplier development roadmaps and improvement plans.
  • Drive supplier excellence through productivity projects, process optimization, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Lead supplier localization and alternate source development programs.

New Product Development (NPD)


  • Collaborate with Engineering, R&D, and Project teams during product design and development phases.
  • Support supplier selection and sourcing strategies for new product introductions.
  • Ensure timely supplier readiness for prototype, pilot, and production stages.
  • Participate in Design Reviews, DFMA (Design for Manufacturing & Assembly), and APQP activities.
  • Manage sourcing timelines, tooling development, and supplier capacity planning for NPD projects.

Zero-Based Costing (ZBC) & Cost Optimization


  • Perform detailed Zero-Based Costing analysis for fabricated, machined, electrical & mechanical components.
  • Develop cost models covering raw material and process costs & Challenge supplier quotations through fact-based cost analysis & Drive Value Engineering (VE) and Value Analysis (VA) initiatives to achieve sustainable cost reductions.
  • Deliver annual cost-saving targets through negotiations, localization, and design optimization.

  • Support inventory optimization and working capital improvement initiatives.
  • Resolve supplier-related quality and delivery issues through structured problem-solving methodologies.

Contracting & Risk Management


  • Negotiate commercial agreements, long-term contracts, payment terms, and service-level agreements.
  • Develop risk mitigation plans for critical commodities and suppliers.
  • Ensure adherence to procurement policies, ethical sourcing standards, and regulatory requirements.

Required Qualification:


  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Production Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
  • MBA in Supply Chain Management / Operations Management preferred.
