I’m sorry! I beg to disagree to the answers above!!

The question clearly asked about the INTERVIEWER… not on INTERVIEWEE.

An examples of mistakes that an interviewer commits during any interviews are:

  • Being unprepared, didn’t read carefully the CV of the candidate.
  • Asking same questions in a manner that candidates’ answers will just arrive to the info already written clearly on CV.
  • Being unprofessional, by doing other tasks not related to interviewing event that’s going on and the candidates will be left unattended even for few minutes.

In the beginning is the preamble in advance: whether you today in a healthy condition , how to travel to here is smooth and life history , history of education , skills possessed , job experience , achievements that have been achieved with regard to vacancies proposed , current salary , expected salary , when it could soon join , phone number / email contact information. I think it was all that passed by did not need to happen outside the context of the emergence of questions

First of all interviewers have preconceived ideas & do not carry out an interview with an open mind. Some interviewers may be biased towards  certain personality traits in a person. Remember to keep the company's interest in mind.

They must realise that there is always something to learn from each interview & must therefore learn to listen to the candidate with a lot of patience.

Do not pre-judge a candidate based on a few answers/body language but confirm your findings with additional questions & carry out a balanced assessment at the end of the interview.

Pressure of time is another problem , more so when you have to interview a large number of candidates. You may tend to hasten up the process at the end of the day & therefore not be very objective in your assessment. This may result in some deserving candidates being rejected. Each candidate must be given adequate time for which fix the number of interviews according to availability of time.

Make sure you are not disturbed during the interview as a result of calls from home or company seniors which will distract you.

I think that could be typical irrelevant questions; some interviewers get typical interview questions from internet, and use it a s a standard set for all levels and all jobs. for example: if you are interviewing an administration officer and asking him about his/her achievements, or latest projects.Another mistake is to disregard candidates potentials, some candidates' resumes give an indication that he/she doesn't have enough experience but have high potentials. for example: a Junior employee with reasonable experience could be fit for next level of Seniority even if he wasn't a senior before.

One of the mistakes made by the recruiters is settling for a candidate who seems convincing before giving the rest a chance.

All interviewees must be given a chance and avoid pre judging before the session is over.

This may make the wrong candidate being chosen at the good candidate who may be last to be interviewed.
