One of your colleagues says to you that they dislike the term ‘human resource management’, how do you reply?

Because it implies that employees are simply being treated as factors of production to be manipulated by management and not as human beings. How do you reply?

I think the HR management itself has to enlighten each and every employee about the true purpose of having the Human Resource Management. From the definition itself that HRM includes conducting job analyses, planning personnel needs, recruiting the right people for the job, orienting and training, managing wages and salaries, providing benefits and incentives, evaluating performance, resolving disputes, and communicating with all employees at all levels. All activities are executed to provide well-being to employees, for their own welfare as a human being. With the emergence of different training and seminars as part of HRM culture, it allows employees to develop their own skills and acquire new knowledge which I personally believe is part of justified humane treatment. And it's a win-win situation, HRM is there to develop every staff to help achieve the company's objectives and at the same time is to achieve an employee's objective too which is to earn for a living, to shape them to be a better employee and human being, and a harmonious relationship to everyone.

I agree with Loraine's answer.

A coin has two faces , we can take it as positive and negative sides. In that situation, First I will sit with the colleague and will know the exact reason behind his statement.

Being in HR, the first and foremost quality must be PATIENCE ,so I will react in a very positive sense and would definitely convince him/ her as the term itself is Human resource management, we have to manage the human personnel by interacting and by giving good examples. Basically HRM is a very vast subject which has to be handled very carefully, of course, I believe if you have passion, dedication, zeal and hardworking nature as a HR professional, nothing is impossible even the negative situation can be handled and molded with a positive outcome.

HR is not about treating employees like machines or factors of production, HR is about taking care of employees , satisfy their needs and develop their skills in order to achieve the best outcomes !
