Job Description

  • Provide immediate medical care to patients presenting with acute illnesses, injuries, and medical emergencies in the emergency department.
  • Prioritize patient care based on the severity of their condition and allocate resources accordingly, ensuring that patients with life-threatening conditions receive prompt attention.
  • Conduct rapid initial assessments to evaluate patients' vital signs, symptoms, and medical history to determine the appropriate course of treatment.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as blood tests, imaging studies (X-rays, CT scans), and electrocardiograms (ECGs) to assist in diagnosing patients' conditions.
  • Develop and implement treatment plans based on the patient's diagnosis, including administering medications, performing procedures (e.g., wound care, suturing), and providing supportive care.
  • Perform emergency procedures such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), intubation, defibrillation, and central line placement as needed to stabilize critically ill or injured patients.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare providers, including specialists, nurses, and paramedics, to ensure comprehensive and coordinated patient care throughout their emergency department stay.
  • Continuously monitor patients' vital signs, response to treatment, and overall clinical status, adjusting interventions as necessary to optimize outcomes.
  • Provide education to patients and their families regarding their condition, treatment options, and follow-up care instructions to promote understanding and compliance.
  • Participate in disaster preparedness initiatives and drills, ensuring readiness to respond to mass casualty incidents, natural disasters, and other emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of patient encounters, including medical history, assessment findings, treatment provided, and discharge instructions, in compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of emergency medical care, including performance audits, protocol development, and staff training.
  • Advocate for patients' needs and rights within the healthcare system, ensuring that they receive timely and appropriate care regardless of their socio-economic status or background.
  • Stay updated on the latest advancements in emergency medicine through participation in continuing medical education (CME) activities, conferences, and professional development opportunities.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and legal regulations governing emergency medical practice, including patient confidentiality, informed consent, and documentation practices.
