AVEVA is looking to hire a Legal Director based in Cairo, Egypt who is a dynamic, hands-on, and mature legal professional and who takes a commercial and pragmatic approach to complex issues.


Reporting to VP Legal Sales, EMEA and working with an experienced and well-established legal team in EMEA, the Legal Director will play a key role in the region, primarily focusing on the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region including Central Asia, as well as certain assigned Global Accounts. The Legal Director will be responsible for reviewing, drafting, and negotiating a range of commercial contracts to support AVEVA’s business in the region, as well as provide professional and timely advice to various internal stakeholders such as sales, procurement, operations, finance and HR.


We are looking for a Legal Director who has exceptional business acumen, integrity, and ethics and has the street smarts and skillsets to digest complex and cross-border issues and build relationships across the business. There will be opportunities to travel in the region on an as-required basis for projects and customer-facing negotiations.



Responsibilities
 


  • Be an integral part of the continued growth of AVEVA’s commercial deal pursuits as well as general legal issues that arise in the region, primarily focusing on the Middle East & Africa (MEA) region including Central Asia, as well as certain assigned Global Accounts.
  • Advise, review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of commercial contracts with public sector and private customers and suppliers as necessary, including but not limited to software services agreements, maintenance agreements, consultancy agreements, global contractual framework agreements, procurement, subcontractor, and strategic alliance agreements, as well as other in-bound commercial agreements, always operating within an agreed approval matrix and legal policy framework
  • Assist several sub-functions within the Legal department on corporate, regulatory and other legal matters at a local level, such as M&A activities, corporate housekeeping, employment/HR, facilities, trade compliance and litigation related matters.
  • Establish good working relationships throughout the Legal department and across all business units, including the Contract Management Team and other support functions such as Finance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of, and support compliance with, applicable laws and regulations as well as group legal policies
  • Assist in reviewing and assessing current processes, practices and structures for efficient legal compliance, and lead or support projects and initiatives to improve and/or streamline legal processes and documentation
  • Hire and manage a junior counsel
  • Manage and coordinate with internal subject matter experts, external counsel, and relevant authorities as needed
  • Prepare contract summaries, legal trackers, and dispute resolution trackers to aid in the management decision-making process
  • Lead or assist with various special projects as may be assigned

Skills & Qualifications
 


  • Authorised and licensed to practice law in Egypt
  • 13+ years PQE in a reputable commercial law firm or in-house in an international environment with progressive, relevant experience in software licensing
  • Familiar with key features of civil law and common law legal systems and comfortable negotiating commercial contracts governed by either civil or common law jurisdiction
  • Sound judgment, strong communication skills
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English
  • Excellent contract negotiation and drafting skills
  • Experience managing outside counsel, balancing competing demands and working under pressure
  • Familiar with MEA (including Central Asia)’s business culture and ethics and has a solid understanding of cultural characteristics to be considered
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment and work independently
  • People management experience (desired)
