Job Description

Duties and Responsibilities

General Areas of Responsibilities:

  • Performs her duties and tasks as per Policy and Procedure Guidelines, Nursing Code of Conduct and the Standardized Military Hospital By-laws.
  • Participates actively in all quality and performance improvement activities within the department / service and within the hospital as per the Quality Improvement and Patient Safety Program.
  • Participates actively in all of the education requirements and activities as per the hospital education program.
  • Participates actively in Fire and Safety and Disaster management.
  • Adheres to the agreement of the “Promissory to follow the Guidelines” which is signed on arrival at the hospital.
  • Maintains good health and must be prepared to work odd hours.

Job Specific Duties:

  • Assess implements and evaluates patients care in the unit in accordance with established standards and practice.
  • Collaborates with other health care team members in planning and providing safe and comprehensive care.
  • Functions quickly and effectively in an emergency situation.
  • Evaluates patient’s treatment and care reports pertinent information to appropriate nursing or medical personnel.
  • Assists the doctors and carry out prescribed treatment including administration of medication as per hospital policy.
  • Documentations care, observed physical and emotional symptoms and changes according to hospital policy.
  • Responsible for safe-keeping of narcotics when in- charge.
  • Maintains a safe and clean environment for the patient, including fire and safety, disaster management and infection control.
  • Respect the dignity of patients and maintains confidentiality.
  • Participates in the development and training of nursing institutes students.
  • Acts as mentor and assists with orientation of new staff.
  • Take charge of shifts and operational management of the unit as and when required.
  • Monitors and maintains stock of consumables/clinical supplies.
  • Participates in Nursing Committees.
  • Attends CPR update and Medication competency workshops.
  • Maintain professional license.
  • Contributes to Total Quality Management by identifying nursing problems in thee unit.
  • Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to dress code policy.
  • Performs other duties within the realm of his/her qualifications and experiences
