Machinery Engineer – Turbines

The Machinery Engineer (Turbines) shall be responsible for the successful installation of wind turbines.

Job Purpose / Objectives:

The Machinery Engineer’s job purpose is to manage the complete onsite turbine package. It is the role of the Machinery Engineer to mage the turbine OEM’s daily activities and progression at site. To achieve this, all turbine installation activities are to be executed in a safe manner considering the highest standards of safety, quality, and efficiency.

The Machinery Engineer is to manage the turbine OEM installation operations on site and to provide technical expertise during the installation activities. The Machinery Engineer’s shall specifically:

  • Review the OEMs, RAMS, crane and turbine installation rigging, and lifting plans are in accordance with contract requirements;
  • Coordinate with the civil team for handover of the infrastructure to the OEM;
  • Work closely with logistics team to ensure the timely delivery of components to site;
  • Responsible for the supervision of all lifting operations;
  • Storage of the turbine components are incompliance with OEM procedures and approved RAMS;
  • Safe and timely installation of the turbines to a mechanical and electrical completion state and handover to commissioning team;
  • Supporting the quality process and quality team with technical non-conformities;
  • Resolving quality deviations (de-snagging) to ensure not only a smooth handover to the Employer but also a smooth operation over the lifetime of the windfarm. To achieve this, all installation, testing, commissioning, and finishing activities are to be executed to the highest possible standards and in safe and timely manner;


Skills

Experience:

  • Minium 3-5 years experience working as turbine site manager or 5 plus years as a lead / senior mechanical or electrical supervisor ready to make the next move to site management; 
  • Experience working with Chinese OEM would be advantageous;
  • Extensive, mechanical, electrical and hydraulic experience specific to wind turbines;
  • Heavy lifting experience;


Required Certificates and Training:

  • Relevant mechanical or electrical qualification;
  • GWO Basic Safety Training consisting of:
  • First aid;
  • Manual handling
  • Fire awareness
  • Working at height
  • Valid Medical evaluation for working at heights;
  • Fall protection and arrester training;
  • Valid driving license; and
  • Appointed Person lifting operation or Level 3 Rigger would be advantageous but not compulsory;
