Certain Social Media is very helpful to find a job, but can also be your 'enemy' e.g. Facebook or even Twitter where you post personal thoughts and pictures.

Some potential employers check your FB profile and tweets.

I have empathy for fresh graduates who are trying to break into a tough job market.

South Africa is very difficult as jobs are scarce due to preference employment, staff cut-backs and replacing humans with technology.

Indeed, this is the bright side of Social Media and not only for jobs but it is also playing a vital role in Employer Branding. I am using it for both purpose and not only for fresh candidates, my certain postings have been moved to FB and that I came to know via emails. It heap, fast and gain masses response but on the dark side I have been receiving junk data also and this waste productive time and itching in eyes. I would second Erika that fresh candidates are trying best to get a job and not only in South Africa but in South Asia and in our country due to certain macro issues job market is shrinking and creating fuss among the youth. But yes, we could not eliminate the importance of Social Media Platforms.
