Duties and Responsibilities
- Abides by the Medical Staff Bylaws, Code of Medical Ethics, Rules and Regulations of the Medical Staff, and those specific to the department.
- Provides the highest attainable standard of medical care for the patients for whom he/she is responsible.
- Carries out full range of inpatient and outpatient clinical duties as assigned by Medical Director in accordance with individually approved clinical privileges.
- Teaches staff assigned for training purposes, and participates with the director of department/head of division and the Consultant in planning a programme of career development for trainees.
- Participates in the on-call duties as required by the department/division.
- To initiate and organize prospective trials and studies on currently important topics, with a view to publication.
- Participates in the improvement of quality of patient care (Total Quality Medicine Programme, Quality Assessment Improvement Programme) as applicable.
- Instructs and guides, when necessary, junior medical staff in the overall care of patients, supervises their performance/work, and contributes to the training and teaching activities in the department.
- Reports and discuss all unusual findings, complication or alterations in the management plan, with the Consultant.
- Fulfills the requirement of the Saudi Council for Health Specialties about continuing medical education.
- Takes part in teaching program lectures, seminars, tutorials etc.
- Assists in the training, teaching, supervision and assessment of trainee technicians, specialists and others as required.
- Participates in and/or actively supports approved research projects.
- Deputizes for the Consultant as required and shares the workload in his specialty during the absence of his colleagues.
- Strives to improve his clinical expertise as well as the standard of practice concerning morbidity and cost-effectiveness.
- Participates in the Major Disaster Plan of the hospital, as indicated.
- Participate in Community activities as related to health education and patient education practice.
- Participates in CQIPS System Improvement activities, System Control activities, Staff Development activities, Environmental Awareness, Fire and Safety Practices, CPR, Disaster, and Infection Control.
- Performs other applicable tasks and duties assigned within the realm of his/her knowledge, skills, and abilities, within the hospital and/or affiliated medical facilities.
